A Brush With Clay

Carnival of Flowers in Toowoomba starts on Saturday with a parade down the main street. Toowoomba once again displays the beauty of nature and plays host to visitors from all over the country & overseas. It's such a fun time for all, galleries, businesses & the public taking their part in making the Carnival atmosphere.
To get into the spirit of things I am painting two works with a carnival theme, Masquerade & Harlequin.
So I hope your day is a joyful day & thank you for looking.

I am still getting used to the new piczo system & yesterdays post got lost somehow ... somewhere, but I am pleased to be able to tell you that my canary's have chicks, Mozart & Enya are proud parents again.
Apart from my art I have another interest in breeding birds budgies, canary's & doves, my home is full of song & soft cooing, Romeo & Juliet are Diamond Doves not much bigger than a canary.
Once my flock is taken care of in the morning which commences at 5 am, a quick bite for breakfast & time to face the canvas again, I have a passion to create, most creative people would know & understand what it is like to be driven to create & so the day begins.
Today I start two new paintings, something I have been thinking about for sometime. The Harlequin has always fascinated me, so here goes ... time to play in the paint.
Have a wonderful day & enjoy your creative journey.

My Journey

From a young age the fasination of creating something from my imagination into the tangible was something I enjoyed doing. Collecting found & discarded treasures became an interesting exercise, sometimes not knowing what & where these treasures would be used but like a bower bird nothing was overlooked because I felt someday it could be " Just What I Am Looking For "
My Journey into the art's began after I seriously hurt my pelvis & spine, neck & both shoulder dislocations in 1992. Working in aged care nursing, which ended my ability to employment. Given two options by my medical practitioners, either to have my spine wired or try chiropractic treatments ( I was advised to take the latter ) & to find a hobby. So began my journey, floral art came & went, bear making didn't seem to do it for me, decoupage, I soon lost interest, wood work, making bird boxes, doll houses, wind chimes etc, loved it but the body didn't. Then I discovered cloth dolls or should I say they found me & I was hooked. Many hours & late late nights went into their creation. It was a journey of discovery, experimentation & joy as each character came to life.
I began to experiment with air dried clay & so my dolls went from cloth to cloth & clay and later polymer clay. Painting their features was one of my favorite techniques, so that's how my art on canvas evolved I wanted to see if I could take something I loved to do further add paint to a larger canvas & that's how the art studio was born.
Art has given me back my life as a chronic pain suffer or should I say SURVIVOR  I have been able to work through my pain, it has given me a reason to open my eyes and see the beauty around me & the realization that there are other's out there a lot worse off than I am & I thank the Lord for his guidance, compassion & the gifts he has entrusted to me.
Each day a new beginning, something to learn & something to share.
Enjoy your creative journey ... as I have & the blessing that I am still here & able to share mine with you.
